Plucker's Night Plucker's in West Campus November 22, 5-11 pm Have dinner at Plucker's in West Campus to help Texas Dance go to Nationals in Daytona, Florida! If you tell your waiter that you are there for Texas Dance, a portion of your bill will go towards our trip to represent UT in Florida. Members of Texas Dance will be at Plucker's throughout the evening, happy to tell you more about our team! We would love to see everyone there! (Note: Alcohol sales and purchases by Plucker's Club members do not count toward the fundraiser) It costs a pretty penny to send 22 dancers to Florida, and everything we don't earn through fundraisers and sponsorships, we finance ourselves. These expenses include registration, hotel rooms, plane tickets, costumes, transportation from the airport and around Daytona, and food while we are there. Anything you can help with is appreciated. If you would like to contribute to our team by becoming a Sponsor, please email Alyssa Burnside here. 26th Annual Hex Rally November 21 Main Mall, in front of the UT Tower Texas Dance won a performance in Hex Rally! We entered a competition for Facebook "like"s from Texas Exes Student Chapter members against Steel Dance Company and Redefined Dance Company. Each of the teams submitted a preview video, and the video with the most "like"s from TESC members won. Thanks to your views of our video, support, and "like"s, we have earned our position! Hex Rally is the pep rally before the annual Thanksgiving Texas/Texas A&M football game. It started in 1941, when Longhorn fans lit red candles in an attempt to break a losing streak at Texas A&M's Kyle Field. The Longhorns beat #2 ranked Texas A&M 23-0, and we have been lighting red candles before this game ever since. The rally features performances from Texas Cheer and Pom, The Longhorn Band, and TEXAS DANCE, and words from Coach Mack Brown, Coach "Mad Dog" Madden, and two Longhorn football players. We hope you will come to Hex Rally to watch the performances and get the Longhorn football team ready for their game in College Station! Click here for information about Steel Dance Company. What's Up Next...American Dance/Drill Team Nationals March 23 University of North Texas, Denton, TXEach year, Texas Dance travels north to UNT in Denton, TX to compete in ADTS Nationals. The competition is primarily for high school teams, and between routines we are given a chance to meet and speak with high school dancers who may be interested in our team. The competition is also an opportunity to compete against many teams we will see again in Daytona, FL at National Dance Alliance's Collegiate National Competition. We know that it is hard for family and friends to travel to Florida to support us each spring, so we encourage our fans to come watch us compete in Denton. National Dance Alliance Collegiate National Competition April 10-14 Daytona Beach, FL NDA Nationals is the focus of Texas Dance's spring semester. We spend Wednesday through Sunday in Daytona dancing for a national title. It is the hardest but most fun and rewarding part of our year. WE'RE TEXAS!"Texas Dance" is the official dance team of the University of Texas at Austin! We have been in existence for over 30 years, and look forward to welcoming new faces to our team each year. Our team has performed at many UT events, such as Camp Texas, the OU Torchlight Parade and Rally and Texas A&M Hex Rally, and Basketball halftimes. We are an entirely student-run organization, overseen by a RecSports advisor and team officers, who work extremely hard to manage the team. Although performing for crowds is our main focus, we also make time for philanthropic and social activities. We constantly seek to spread our passion for dance to the city of Austin beyond the UT community through events ranging from children's camps to hip-hop clinics. Each dancer on the team brings her own individual style to the group, making for an amazingly diverse group of girls whose talents extend far beyond what is seen on the surface. We are athletes, singers, and honor students who come together on the dance floor as a closely knit family with a common goal to dance our hearts out and entertain our audience. ![]() WE WANT YOU!
Each fall and spring, we host auditions for new members. We do not have a set number of dancers, so we never have a specific number of spots to fill. If you love to dance like we do, we'd love to have you! Before fall auditions we host an optional clinic to give interested dancers a feel for what will be expected of them at the actual audition. It follows the same format as the day of auditions, but has nothing to do with the selection process. During the audition we stretch and learn across the floor combinations and a team dance. Current members take the audition class right alongside those auditioning, and are always there to help out! Technique is very important to us, and skills such as extensions, double and triple turns, and Russians, are always part of the audition - don't be scared! Though we emphasize technical ability, we're not perfect. Individual style is what catches our eye and regardless of your technical ability, if you're a performer, we're definitely going to be impressed! Information about Fall Auditions will be updated here next semester! WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!Want to talk to us about the team? To email our Director Susie Kim with any questions you may have, click here. Although we practice up to five days a week, the entire team practices each Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 to 10 pm, and Sunday from 7 to 10 pm in RSC 1.106, if you'd like to take a peek at what we're up to!
