FALL 2011 EVENTS

Plucker's Night

Plucker's in West Campus
November 22, 5-11 pm

Have dinner at Plucker's in West Campus to help Texas Dance go to Nationals in Daytona, Florida! If you tell your waiter that you are there for Texas Dance, a portion of your bill will go towards our trip to represent UT in Florida. Members of Texas Dance will be at Plucker's throughout the evening, happy to tell you more about our team! We would love to see everyone there!

(Note: Alcohol sales and purchases by Plucker's Club members do not count toward the fundraiser)

It costs a pretty penny to send 22 dancers to Florida, and everything we don't earn through fundraisers and sponsorships, we finance ourselves. These expenses include registration, hotel rooms, plane tickets, costumes, transportation from the airport and around Daytona, and food while we are there. Anything you can help with is appreciated.

If you would like to contribute to our team by becoming a Sponsor, please email Lindsey Ventura here.

26th Annual Hex Rally

November 21
Main Mall, in front of the UT Tower

Texas Dance won a performance in Hex Rally! We entered a competition for Facebook "like"s from Texas Exes Student Chapter members against Steel Dance Company and Redefined Dance Company. Each of the teams submitted a preview video, and the video with the most "like"s from TESC members won. Thanks to your views of our video, support, and "like"s, we have earned our position!

Hex Rally is the pep rally before the annual Thanksgiving Texas/Texas A&M football game. It started in 1941, when Longhorn fans lit red candles in an attempt to break a losing streak at Texas A&M's Kyle Field. The Longhorns beat #2 ranked Texas A&M 23-0, and we have been lighting red candles before this game ever since. The rally features performances from Texas Cheer and Pom, The Longhorn Band, and TEXAS DANCE, and words from Coach Mack Brown, Coach "Mad Dog" Madden, and two Longhorn football players. We hope you will come to Hex Rally to watch the performances and get the Longhorn football team ready for their game in College Station!

Longhorn Halloween

October 30
We hope you brought the kids in their costumes to see Texas Dance perform at Longhorn Halloween! Longhorn Halloween is a fun and safe Halloween carnival put on for children of UT Austin faculty, staff, and students. Admission is free and the event features games, face painting, a haunted house, a fire truck, and more! We performed two routines and stayed after for pictures with the kids. It was great to see all the children in their costumes and get more involved in the UT community.

SUMMER 2011 EVENTS

National Dance Alliance Collegiate Camp

July 22 – 24
Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX

Each summer Texas Dance heads to Dallas for NDA's Collegiate Camp. In three days we learned a camp jazz/hip hop/pom routine, and a "Gameday" routine, as well as two routines each dancer chose from a variety of styles and difficulty levels. This camp prepared teams for the year ahead, and the final performance is a competition for a bid to Nationals in Daytona Beach, FL in April. Our performance earned us a bronze bid, and we had one All-American dancer and two nominees. Congratulations to Katherine LeStage on being an All-American dancer, and to Kismet Cuellar and Taylor Johnston on being nominated. We are lucky to have such talented dancers on our team and cannot wait for what this year brings!

Information on the date and location will become available closer to show time. We hope to see you there!

Spring Auditions

American Dance/Drill Team Nationals

March 26
University of North Texas, Denton, TX

Texas Dance traveled to UNT to compete in American Dance/Drill Team's Nationals competition. This was our first of two Nationals performances, and critiques are helping us prepare for our trip to Daytona Beach, FL. Before our performance we had a booth in the colosseum where interested students visited with us and got information about our team for the upcoming school year. We loved seeing our parents and friends in Denton and thank you for your support. Texas Dance placed third among Texas Christian University Elite, University of North Texas Pom, and Southern Methodist University.
